The story
Cleopatra takes your child by the hand and tells them her true story: a girl who grew up in Alexandria beside the great lighthouse and the famous Library, the first of her family known to learn Egyptian, queen at eighteen, carried to Julius Caesar in a bedding sack (or so the old story goes), feeding her people when the Nile flood failed, and sailing to Tarsus on a golden ship with purple sails. Today a new library stands by the sea in Alexandria, and divers explore her sunken royal quarter.

Painted to look like them
Painted from your photo, or pick boy or girl, four skin tones, nine hairstyles or a hijab, five hair colours, with or without glasses.

But my brother’s advisers wanted to rule without me, and they pushed me out of Alexandria. Then the great Roman general Julius Caesar came to my city. I needed to speak to him… but my brother’s guards were everywhere.
It is told that my friend Apollodorus took me to the palace in a small boat at dusk, hid me in a bedding sack tied with a cord, and carried me inside to Caesar!
Shh, Taleen! Hold up the lantern… and not a word!
In films, Cleopatra is often rolled up in a carpet, but Plutarch, the Greek writer who told this story about 150 years later, wrote of a sack for bedding.
A true story on every page
Real dates, places and people, told by Cleopatra herself, with a “Did you know?” fact on every spread.

Their name on every page
Cleopatra talks to them all the way: “Your turn, Taleen. Sign it with me: let it be done!”

Caesar listened to me, and he became my ally. With his help, I was queen again.
People say that we then sailed up the Nile together, on a royal boat as big as a palace. Along the banks: palm trees, green fields, farmers with their oxen… and, far away, the pyramids. Even in my time, they were more than two thousand years old!
Look, Taleen: can you count the pyramids?
The Great Pyramid was built around 2560 BC. So Cleopatra lived closer in time to the first Moon landing, in 1969, than to the building of the Great Pyramid!
Two languages on every page
Arabic with English, French or Spanish, so the whole family can read it together.
Taleen walked with Cleopatra through Alexandria, unrolled a map in the great Library, said hello in many languages, shared grain with hungry families, and signed a royal order: let it be done!
